Force-sensitive microtubule dynamics govern kinetochore dynamics during metaphase. We developed a minimal model that explains how growth and shortening dynamics of individual microtubules may be coordinated. In our model, the force-velocity relation for a bundle of microtubules is bistable, which could facilitate observed biological behaviors during metaphase including chromosome oscillations and syntelic error correction.
