John Mills
Originally from San Diego, John Mills (52) is a technologist by trade, but an independent scholar researching the stories of the enslaved by passion. He is the founder and President of Alex Breanne Corporation, a 501c3 non-profit, which performs research, interrogation and presentation of lesser known stories representing the life experience of the American enslaved.
A descendant of the American enslaved, as well as the descendant of enslavers due to their relationships with the enslaved, John’s goal is to honor the forgotten, as well as to apply critical thinking to our history as a means to find solutions to the ripple effects today.
In addition to his current research efforts, John is currently working with an international team of theatre and digital design artists, examining ways of decolonizing museum sites through immersive presentation. Led by Dr. Holly Maples, Senior Lecturer in Theatre at the University of Essex, this will be an Augmented Reality tour through the historic home of Reverend Jonathan Ashley (c. 1750) highlighting the enslaved experience in the home. Visitors will wear Augmented Reality glasses allowing for display of holographic images within each room as part of the museum experience.
