What does the sleep equipment assess? | Sleep duration and quality of sleep, breathing and oxygen levels during your sleep, the sleep stages (REM and non-REM)
During your visit to the research clinic, we will provide you sleep equipment. |
What do the cognitive tests measure? | Processing speed, working memory, blood flow, cerebral small vessel function, and any severe impairments
Part of your visit to our research clinic includes the measurement of your thinking process or cognition through a series of testing. |
What does the (fasting) blood sample assess? | We measure glucose, insulin, lipids, and hemoglobin A1c in the blood. These are indicators of risk of diabetes and heart disease. |
Is this study dangerous to me? | No. Most of the assessments in this study involve minimal risk, meaning the chances for harm in this study is not any greater than everyday life. |
Will the sleep equipment be painful? | No, the sleep equipment will not cause any pain. |
What if I change my mind? | Our study is completely voluntary. You may withdraw your consent, the permission to participate, at any time. Withdrawing from a study will not affect your ability to volunteer for future research studies or obtain medical care at the Northwestern University health system. |
Will I get paid? | We compensate participants depending on which study components are completed. |
How many clinic visits do I need to attend? | There are two visits in total for our study, both study visits can be done on the same day or approximately a week apart based on your schedule. There are no overnight stays. |
How long are the clinic visits? | Including both clinic visits, the total time is approximately 4 hours. |
Do you provide transportation for me? | Yes, we do! We provide a pickup and drop-off service via Lyft, we reimburse if you wish to take public transportation and for those who want to drive, we provide a parking pass. |
