We are excited to announce that Laura Reed has joined our research group: Laura began her research journey at the University of Washington by joining Professor Matt Golder’s research group. There, she immersed herself in the intricate field of post-polymerization modification of polybutadiene using innovative selenium-mediated allylic amination techniques. Her passion for sustainable materials intensified as she extended her research experience in Professor Sriramya Nair’s lab at Cornell University. There, she delved into the transformation of plastic waste, exploring creative methods to upcycle it into alternative cementitious materials that can serve as sustainable building solutions. Furthering her exploration of polymer chemistry, Laura joined the lab of Dr. Brett Helms’ at the renowned Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In this dynamic environment, she investigated the remarkable chemical recyclability of polydiketoenamines, a unique class of fully recyclable plastics defined by their dynamic covalent bonds, which allow for innovative recycling processes. These enriching research experiences ignited Laura’s passion and motivated her to pursue a PhD in sustainable polymer chemistry at Northwestern University. Now, she eagerly anticipates joining Professor Will Dichtel’s esteemed research lab, where, bolstered by the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, she plans to advance her mission of enhancing the recyclability of commodity polymers, contributing to a more sustainable future. Welcome aboard, Laura!
