My research explores racial inequality in American politics with a focus on who gets what in urban politics, and the policing of communities of color. Within these domains I study the causes and efficacy of police reform, the political influence of police unions, the use of criminal fines and civil asset forfeiture to finance local government operations, public opinion on punitive crime policy, and the effects of community supervision and mass incarceration on African American politics.
