Seeking 2 Postdoctoral Fellows to perform research at the nexus of Earth system science, data science, public health, and environmental justice
Northwestern University’s Climate Change Research Group [https://sites.northwestern.edu/danethan/] seeks two postdoctoral research fellows with experience and/or interest in leading/joining two distinct but overlapping interdisciplinary research projects that will advance the state-of-knowledge at the intersection of climate/atmospheric sciences, public health, and environmental justice. Both postdoctoral fellows will be expected to perform state-of-the-science research as well as interact with, solicit feedback from, and inform community, municipal, and policy partners regarding experimental design, data analyses, and results. Research activities will focus on characterizing hyper-local/intra-urban extreme heat and/or air pollution exposure, health outcomes, and the demographic distributions thereof.
Applicants with strong environmental data science, bioinformatics, numerical modeling, and/or geospatial analysis backgrounds are encouraged to apply. One PD position will be filled by a candidate with expertise in heat vulnerability, population susceptibility, and heat exposure-related health outcomes. The second position seeks a candidate with expertise in chemical transport modeling, transportation infrastructure, emissions modeling, and/or pollutant exposure-related health outcomes. Candidates should be interested in building a better understating of the linkages, interactions, and impacts of human systems within the greater Earth system.
Funding is available for multiple years for each position, but hires will receive one-year contracts that will be renewed pending demonstrated research/outreach progress. Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2024. Candidates must have a PhD by their start date. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidate application packages (or questions) should be emailed to daniel.horton@northwestern.edu with the following materials: a cover letter, a statement of research interests, experiences, and vision, a CV, and a list of three references with e-mail addresses.
