Get Ready Series

“From the get ready series you learn the actual process it takes from actual people who endured the process. I like how straight forward the RAs and students were because they didn’t sugar coat on what it took and they were getting you prepared for the process involved.” –Andrew G., Summer ‘24 CPP

Get Ready Series Speakers 2024

“The most valuable piece of advice I received was to make the essay more specific. During the Get Ready Series, we read many essay examples, both good and bad, to better learn how to write an essay that represents personal characteristics and story efficiently and comprehensively.” –Haosi G., Summer ‘24 CPP

“I feel as though it has helped me consider my college application more seriously and gave me access to a lot of important skills I can utilize in the future.” –CPP Student, Summer ’24

“Be prepared to take notes and soak up all the information. Any and everything that is said is important and will become even more valuable to you in the future.”CPP Student, Summer ‘24

“I would say that personal statements posted online are often very intense, featuring unique but often devastating experiences. When I was drafting my essays, I felt a sense of cliché, almost as if I was forced to follow the general trend. I couldn’t stop thinking that my essay needed to fit into that mold. The essay class definitely helped by providing guidelines that made the process smoother and allowed me to find my own voice. Another event I really enjoyed was the panel talk. I had a lot of fun listening to their stories, and at the same time, they reassured me about the daunting application season. I learned that life doesn’t always go as planned, but there’s always another path to discover. One of the RAs, for example, initially wanted to study creative writing but ended up majoring in computer science after exploring different fields. Their stories fascinated me with the possibilities ahead. In high school, we often get asked what we want to do in the future, but how can we be so sure?” –Hsinyu W., Summer ‘24 CPP

“I liked how it was mostly an in-depth information session. There were lots of details that I did not know about that were helpful.” –Hannah G., Summer ‘24 CPP

“The most valuable piece of advice I received was that I’ll be happy anywhere I go because the doors that open for me will set me on the right path. Hearing from the RAs about their college experiences solidified a hope and excitement for my own future in new ways. They made it substantially easier for me to envision my own life in college, at Northwestern in particular.”Kaitlyn C., Summer ‘24 CPP

“When we gathered on Wednesday to discuss our future, I realized how different everything feels in our countries. This year has been a turning point for me in understanding my major and career, and when I heard about the double major at NU, I immediately thought that this is what I was looking for. I was brought up to speed and told about how to apply, what results are needed, and what they see as a NU student. This knowledge, I am sure, will help me in my upcoming admissions in general, since in my country, people have only recently begun to “wake up” about admissions. I am very grateful to NU for this opportunity.” –Yasmin B., Summer ‘24 CPP
