Theresa B Oehmke, MS

Theresa B Oehmke is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). Oehmke earned a Master’s of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley in 2016 and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Environmental Engineering Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2015. Oehmke’s research is in Environmental Fluid Mechanics. Specifically, she is interested in studying how shape, surface area, and volume influence how quickly particles dissolve in turbulent flows. Oehmke works to uncover some of the mysteries governing particle-fluid interactions in turbulence. Her research is funded by the National Science Foundation and she is also a recipient of the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) Fellowship and a two-time recipient of the Chateaubriand Fellowship.

Outside of research, Oehmke has taken classes in teaching and mentoring and is committed to improving the retention of underrepresented minority students in engineering. In the life part of work-life balance, Oehmke plays competitive water polo and is learning how to surf! She also enjoys doing pottery when the studios are open.
