My Chicago Field Studies experience, both at The Walters Law Firm and in the classroom, has been incredibly rewarding thus far. My internship at The Walters Law Firm has been predominantly civil rights focused and I am constantly doing work in order to seek legal justice for our clients as it pertains to protecting their personal rights guaranteed by the constitution. Through my internship I have attended court, helped draft important legal documents, and met with clients face-to-face. I feel like I am truly making a difference as I strive every day to help the vulnerable populations that The Walters Law Firm serves obtain their rightfully deserved legal help.

The Legal Studies class that Professor Monica Llorente teaches has been just as fulfilling. Not only has she been a dependable, knowledgable, and approachable resource but she has also introduced us to many other faculty members at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law that have proved to be just the same. We have had meetings with research librarians and certified mediators, both of whom have introduced us to skills necessary in becoming a successful lawyer. During our first week we even met with law school students, despite their busy exam schedules, to ask them questions about their experiences thus far. Tomorrow we are touring Baker & McKenzie and meeting with some of their associates.

All in all, this class has opened an endless amount of opportunities for me to further my career goal of eventually becoming a lawyer. The pairing of my internship and class together has made this the most worthwhile quarter yet. I encourage anyone who is even remotely interested in gaining professional experience, while still being challenged academically, to participate in Chicago Field Studies.
