CFS Program: Field Studies in Public Health

I am so glad that I have found an internship that I love through Chicago Field Studies. As a premedical student, I wanted to get more direct exposure to healthcare and understand what makes for a good healthcare provider-patient interaction. By interning with a physical therapist, I have learned how a health professional approaches and evaluates a case, works with different types of patients, and, most importantly, cooperates with the patient to achieve rapid recovery. I have been very lucky to have a supervisor who is dedicated to helping me learn. The great relationships I have forged with not only my co-workers but also with the patients have reaffirmed why I want to go into medicine. One of the best memories I have made at my internship was when a patient brought in three containers of homemade cinnamon granola, one for my supervisor, another for his assistant, and the third for me. I will always cherish the feeling of belonging at that moment.
