I am really enjoying my internship at Blue Canyon Partners. BCP is a small consulting firm with a very flat and friendly culture. My co-workers are always willing to help me and we even exercise together in the afternoon at the office, which is such a cool part of their culture.

In the past few weeks, I have worked on an internal project, which entailed doing research on a popular concept called disruptive innovation and writing a report on it with case studies and industry studies. I also compiled a list of BCP’s 48 competitors and pulling out relevant information from different websites including value proposition, client base, and their influence on social media. Our main purpose is to categorize our competitors and distinguish between BCP and the competitors.

Starting this week, I have 2 client projects. One is for a door hardware production company and the other one is an engineering service company. For the first project, my responsibilities include breaking down the new construction costs (including the percentage of door hardware in the total construction cost) and finding the labor cost included in doors, flooring, ceiling and the like. For the second client project, I am conducting a competitive analysis of our clients. I am looking for companies in the same industry of different sizes and serving different regions in the U.S. and educate our clients on the aspects they need to improve compared to their competitors.

I’m improving my excel proficiency and research abilities. The internship also gives me insight into the necessary steps to understand a specific industry and ways to identify potential growth strategies for our clients.
