Firesides are informal lectures led by faculty, fellows, and students. They allow students to explore and discuss topics of interest.

• CCSliced – Sam Jenkins hosted a “Chopped”-style competition
• CCSign – Eddie Ko is leading a series on learning to sign ASL
• CCSwole – students are leading different exercise sessions for CCSers to do at home, including pilates and yoga
• Introduction to URAP – Faculty Chair Myrna García, Chelsea Guzman, and Vivica Lewis talked about their experiences in the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program
• Communism and Rock & Roll – Associate Chair Kinga Kosmala taught residents about how Rock & Roll influenced political ideologies in Communist Eastern Europe

Winter 2020

• Contesting Racist Stereotypes in Children’s Literature in the 20th Century – Fellow Ashley Dennis talked about the effect of racist depictions of people of color in children’s literature, a subject in her dissertation
• Andy’s with Andy – Fellow Andy Rivers discussed black holes and other topics on astrophysics while CCSers indulged in Andy’s custard
