Mentoring and Community

Mentoring

Causeway participants give back to Northwestern and the Evanston community by serving as mentors in two ways.

Bridge Program: The Weinberg College (Northwestern) Bridge Program is a summer high-school-to-college transition program serving many under-represented minority students. Causeway scholars will share their experiences with incoming undergraduate students in the Bridge Program. Causeway participants will hold “fireside chats” to field questions and host break-out sessions in which students can interact more closely and informally, e.g. over dinner.

Evanston Township High School: Causeway participants will serve as mentors for students at Evanston Township High School, assisting in classrooms every few weeks. Informal gatherings between mentors and students will occur throughout the year, involving discussions about applying to college, planning a course of study, and the college experience.

Community

Student Groups: Several Northwestern student groups have pledged to organize activities with Causeway and to welcome Causeway students to their organizations.  These include the Black Graduate Student Association, the Graduate Student Association for Latino and Spanish Activities, and Communidad Latinx.
