Campus Kitchens collects over 3,000 lbs of excess food from Northwestern dining halls that would otherwise be thrown away. We package the food into healthy meals and deliver these meals to low-income Evanston residents for free. We are conveniently based on campus in The Great Room Kitchen at 600 Haven Street.
Beyond regular operations, we also participate in on and off campus programming. In the past, we have done pumpkin carving with kids at Asian Youth Services, cooked meals for Memorial Day at Second Baptist, and helped students with their homework and St. Patrick’s Day crafts at Salvation Army, taught nutrition education classes at YOU and Dawes Elementary School. On campus, we have screened documentaries, partnered with other groups to feature social justice-related speakers, co-hosted a Hunger Games competition and more. Our organization looks to expand our Evanston community-based programming as well as reach more Northwestern students.
We are always looking for new volunteers and new ways to engage with our community– don’t hesitate to reach out!
