Nona M. Burney
Nona M. Burney (BA’71) was an education and social policy major. She received a master’s degree in urban studies, a Ph.D. in urban education from Cleveland State in 1975, and a law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1981. Dr. Burney was a teacher in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio’s public schools. She was also one of the founders and principal of Cleveland’s Martin Luther King Law and Public Service Magnet High School. She later joined the faculty of Roosevelt University’s College of Education. After receiving her law degree, she practiced with a special interest in education law. Burney passed away in 2014.
