Join the bids community at our first coding workshop focused on enhancing code readability with a community discussion on best coding practices! Light refreshments & drinks will be provided.
We often get caught up in finishing the task and get by with “runnable” code, but when time comes to fix it to be more readable (for a collaborator, publication etc.), it can take days to organize and clean up. Enhancing code readability should always be at the forefront when thinking about collaboration, but how can we make our code generally more readable? The BIDS Student Group is here to help!
This workshop will be done in R. Coders of all experience levels are welcome!
Event outline (tentative):
- 5:00-5:05 Introduction
- 5:05-5:40 Methods: Coding Recs Based on R style Guide for Tidyverse
- Attendees will be broken up to small groups to interactively learn about how to handle files, syntax, functions, pipes, comments, GitHub etc.
- 5:40-5:55 Share code with the group and discuss what elements make it readable
- 5:55-6:00 Conclusion: Closing Remarks
