Research

The Bachta lab has two major research focuses:

First, we explore in vivo infection dynamics of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) using next generation sequencing technologies and animal models of infection. Second, we leverage our extensive bacterial isolate collections to better understand antimicrobial resistance in Pa.

While the large majority of Dr. Bachta’s time is spent in basic and translational research, she continues to see patients on the inpatient infectious diseases consult service at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, in part, consulting on patients with invasive bacterial infections. Clinical service continues to pose challenging questions that the Bachta laboratory explores from the bedside to the bench and back.
