2024 AGSA Spring Games Night

The African Graduate Student Association (AGSA) hosted a lively Game Night on Friday, March 29, 2024, at TGS Commons. The event was a resounding success, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds for an evening filled with fun, friendly competition, and a celebration of African culture. Attendees had a great time playing various games, winning cool prizes, and savoring delectable African cuisine. Sponsored by The Graduate School, the Game Night fostered a vibrant community spirit and provided a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange. AGSA’s events continue to be a highlight, promoting inclusivity and enriching the campus experience through engaging social gatherings.

2024 AFCON Final Watch party

The African Graduate Student Association (AGSA) and AfriSem presented an electrifying AfCON Final Watch Party on February 11, 2024. Students and community members gathered at the Program of African Studies, 620 Library Pl, Evanston IL 60208, to witness the thrilling clash between Ivory Coast and Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations final match. The event fostered a vibrant atmosphere of unity and celebration, with drinks and snacks provided. Fans from both sides cheered passionately for their national teams, creating an unforgettable experience that brought the spirit of African football to campus. The AfCON Final Watch Party exemplified AGSA’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and providing engaging opportunities for the community to come together.

2023-24 Movie Nights

Over the course of the 23-24 Academic year, The African Graduate Student Association (AGSA) organized a series of movie nights showing movies like Head over Bills, A Soweto Love Story, Isoken, They Cloned Tyrone, etc. The movie nights were a good opportunity for students to relax after a stressful week, while building community with other Africans, friends on campus.

2023 Thanksgiving celebration

African Students at Northwestern University came together in the spirit of gratitude and community for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner Party organized by ASA, AGSA, EESA, MENA, and PASU. Held on November 23rd at 5:00 p.m. at TGS Commons (2122 Sheridan Rd, RM 140), this heartwarming event provided an opportunity for attendees from diverse cultural backgrounds to share a delicious meal and celebrate the special holiday together. The festive atmosphere, adorned with warm fall colors and decorative elements, created a welcoming ambiance for fostering connections and appreciating one another’s traditions. The Thanksgiving Dinner Party exemplified the university’s commitment to inclusivity and cross-cultural exchange, making it a cherished annual occasion for the campus community. 2023 Fall Welcome Potluck

On September 23, 2023, we successfully hosted our inaugural event as a TGS-recognized organization. The turnout from our community was remarkable, with members wearing their beautiful attire and pouring love into the delectable dishes they prepared. Approximately 50 attendees graced the occasion, underscoring the necessity of AGSA as a space for us to build community and uplift one another. The vibes were immaculate, and we simply can’t wait to see everyone again!

As is typical of “spring” in Chicago, we were forced to don our jackets as we gathered indoors to say rejuvenate ourselves with food and friendly jokes after a hard-fought winter quarter.
