HEAR

The Health in Early Childhood Asian Americans Research (HEAR) is an ongoing project led by Dr. Soyang Kwon and funded by Lurie Children’s Hospital Schreiber Family Center for Early Childhood Health and Wellness GROW to Five Thrive.

Project Goals

The goal of this study is to understand how psychological and physical health and development in early childhood are influenced by parenting and parents’ experiences, such as acculturation, childhood experiences, and discrimination experiences among Indian, Filipino, and Korean ethnic families.

Background

As the Asian population in the US continues to grow, there is a pressing need to understand the unique experiences and health outcomes within this diverse community. By investigating the impact of both adverse and positive experiences specifically within Asian American families on early childhood development, we hope to address existing gaps in research and contribute to the field of Asian American health and well-being.

Anticipated Impact

Ultimately, our findings aim to inform the development of culturally responsive prevention and intervention strategies tailored to the specific health needs of Asian subgroups, benefiting patients, healthcare providers, and communities alike.
