Working collectively with students, alumni, and collaborators, some of whom are shown in the picture of the presentation of AGU’s Walter Bucher medal (click for event info), we sought to better understand how our planet works and how people can better live with it.

I’ve retired after 43 years at Northwestern, as half of a two-geophysicist family together with my wife Carol, retired from the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In my free time, I was Outings Chair and trip leader for the Woods and Wetlands group of the Illinois Sierra Club, and a member of the Lake County Forest Preserve District’s River Trail Keepers.
