In an era of Facebook and Instagram, it’s important to recall that once we collected our own histories by pasting them into scrapbooks. Past, Paper, Scissors explores history at Northwestern and beyond as depicted by photos, clippings, ticket stubs, faded flowers, and dance cards packed onto the scrapbook pages of a bygone era. Images in this online display date from the 1890s to the present and are from scrapbooks of the Northwestern University Archives, the Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections, the Transportation Library, the Music Library, and the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies.
The exhibition Past, Paper, Scissors: Scrapbooks from the Northwestern University Library Collections runs from September 16, 2013 through January 3, 2014 in the University Library and in the lobby of the Charles Deering Library.
