Communication

Both verbal and written communication training is required for IDEAS trainees earning a PhD. Previously, IDEAS trainees completed theĀ Research Communication Training Program (RCTP) in order to receive this training. Starting in the Spring of 2021, trainees will complete this training via SCOPE. Information on previous years RCTP courses can be found below.

The Research Communication Training Program (RCTP brings in experts from theatre, journalism, education, marketing and design to train graduate student researchers in oral communication skills. The workshop series will be offered during the summer session, meeting weekly in the evenings for 2 hours. An additional session will be offered specifically for IDEAS trainees.

RCTP Writing for Scientists is a course, with priority enrollment given to IDEAS trainees. The course focuses on persuasion and rhetoric, writing for different audiences, and using visuals effectively. Topics include grant proposal writing, social media, and the psychology of visual processing.
