Welcome to Our Research Center

Our research is aimed at exploring the relationship between psychological stress and physical health in both childhood and adulthood, with a particular emphasis on understanding how socioeconomic status contributes to health disparities.

We are interested in learning more about the psychosocial and psychobiological pathways involved in the stress-health relationship, particularly among low socioeconomic groups. We have a special interest in chronic stressors related to low socioeconomic status and caregiving for an ill family member, and the cascading influence they have on the endocrine, immune, and metabolic systems over time.

Our research team, led by Northwestern University Psychology Professors Dr. Edith Chen and Dr. Gregory Miller, explores the psychosocial and psychobiological pathways involved in these SES-health relationships toward the goal of better understanding health disparities.
