Joining the Lab

Currently, my lab is full but will be taking students in 2024 if happy work on existing projects – I am also open to co-mentoring a student with other faculty

Graduate Students: If you are interested in joining our lab as either a MSc or PhD student then please read through this website and student projects and see if the type of work we do is of interest to you.  I would also recommend checking out the Plant Biology and Conservation program at Northwestern website for more details. If you still are interested, then send me an email at jfant AT chicagobotanic.org, with some details of what you are interested in working on, let me know if you are planning on doing a MA or PhD and also what you are hoping to get out of graduate school. I will try my best to reply quickly, but if not feel free to send me a friendly reminder. I would also recommend checking out the websites of my colleagues, Amy Iler, Paul CaraDonna, Norm WickettAndrea Kramer and Krissa Skogen. We collaborate on numerous projects and occasionally co-advise students.

Undergraduate Students: If you are an undergraduate student wishing to work in the Molecular Ecology Lab, there are two options. If you are looking for a paid summer internship we run a 10 week program at the Chicago Botanic Garden. If you are interested in getting experience during term, I recommend you check out this website, then send me an email at jfant AT chicagobotanic.org, with some details on what type experiences you are hoping to gain and times and days you would like to come and work in the lab.
