Carolyn Mills

Carolyn is a postdoctoral fellow in Chemical and Biological Engineering. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research in the lab is focused on investigating how the bacterial microcompartments formed for 1,2-propanediol utilization in Salmonella might be used outside of the cell as bionanoreactors. She is also working on a collaborative project with the Olvera de la Cruz and Torkelson labs for enzymatic recycling of PET (https://www.clp.northwestern.edu/2019/12/16/innovative-plastic-upcycling-project-receives-2020-clp-cornew-award/). When she is not in the lab, Carolyn enjoys exploring local coffee shops and restaurants, and snowboarding.
