This summer I decided to stay in Chicago and get some experience in the finance industry. I interned at NextGen Growth advisors, which is a search fund private equity firm. I did not have any knowledge about finance before and my time there really helped me understand how the industry works. I had a lot of downtime and given I am taking CFS class only for 2 credits, I still managed to have a decent amount of free time as they were flexible with my schedule.

The office culture was very nice and relaxed, and I think I managed to make some new friends among the other interns. The class I took with the internship was Field Studies in the Humanities. I have been enjoying the class so far and the readings I have to do for class each week is very manageable and quite stimulating, too. The most valuable experience I have gotten is probably working with financial models. I learned how to build a model on my own, which is pretty cool. I am glad I decided to stay in Chicago this summer as this experience not only helped build my resume, but also provided me with some insight about what career path I would like to pursue later in life.
